In Stuart’s Representation: Cultural Representation & Signifying Practices, the author analyzes the definition of “representation” in various aspects. He, one of the influential cultural theorists since the 1970s to the 1990s, suggests “representation” differs in different cultures due to different expressions over perception for the materialistic world. He also suggests that people can only understand the representation if they are in the same system of representation.
