Discrimination occurs due to prejudice, which is a negative attitude toward an entire category of people, such as a racial or ethnic minority. Stereotypes are unreliable generalizations about all members of a group that do not take individual differences into account. Discrimination is an act of denying individuals their rights due to another’s prejudice which is typically caused by stereotypes. While stereotypes and prejudice are negative attitudes and preconceived ideas of groups, discrimination is the resulting action due to them.
