Paula is a highly trained accountant at Retreat Bank and has been working there for 5 years. She holds all relevant accounting qualifications for registration. Paula recently applied for a job promotion as ‘Senior Accountant’ at the Bank. During the interview for the promotion she was asked what her plans for the future were with the bank, at which time she disclosed that she was pregnant. Paula did not end up getting the job and was very disappointed. She was not given a reason as to why she did not get the job apart from the fact that Mary, who also had the same qualifications and had been working there for about the same time, had been given the job.
