It is bordered by India in all sides except small border with Myanmar and a long coastal line with the Bay Of Bengal. The Bay Of Bengal is the largest bay in the world, forms the North-Eastern part of Indian Ocean. BIMSTEC or Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) supports free trade internationally around the Bay of Bengal between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand

It is having world’s largest flooded wetland (Bengal Delta) & three main river systems named Ganges, Brahmaputra & Meghna. The total fish production of Bangladesh was estimated at 11,72,800 m tons in 1995. Inland open water fisheries contributed 73 percent of the total fish production. In 1987, Bangladesh became third in world inland fish and shrimp production after China and India and produced 5,81,827 m tons of fish and shrimp.
